The Pro-Ject Audio Systems MC Step Up Box S3 is a step-up transformer for moving-coil (MC) phono cartridges, designed for use with a high-quality moving-magnet (MM) phono preamplifier. It has a solid full-aluminium housing, gold-plated RCA input and output terminals, and a rear-panel cartridge-impedance selector with 10–40 Ω and 40–150 Ω settings. Specifications include a 1:16 transformation ratio, 21 dB gain at 10–40 Ω, 24 dB gain at 40–150 Ω, a 10 Hz–55 kHz frequency response at ±1 dB, a recommended load of 47 kΩ/100 pF, and dimensions of 206 × 65 × 153 mm (164 mm with sockets) at 940 g; it is designed and handmade in Europe.
