Reed
5A
The Reed 5A is a tangential-pivot tonearm made by Reed, based on Double Birch/Thales geometry with a 90° angling tangential-pivot arrangement and an armwand suspension system similar to the Reed 3P. It uses low-noise ceramic rolling bearings in the back link and lever, sapphire–molybdenum carbide thrust bearings for the lever, front link, and vertical and horizontal axes, and supports Reed or SME universal headshell connectors with VTA and azimuth adjustment. Specifications include 251 mm mounting distance, ±4 MOA maximum tracking error, 10–16 g effective mass depending on armwand material, ±8° azimuth adjustment, 10–30 mN downforce, and armwand options including wenge, Macassar ebony, cocobolo, and light or dark teak.
