The Schiit Audio Imp is an impedance multiplier and balanced-output converter for headphone amplifiers, particularly OTL tube amplifiers. It uses an electronic parallel impedance-multiplier topology with an 8× impedance-multiplication ratio, preserving the connected amplifier’s distortion characteristics; it provides a ¼-inch TRS output and a 4.4mm TRRRS balanced output, with the latter delivering twice the voltage of the ¼-inch output. Specifications include 20Hz–20kHz frequency response (±0.1dB), THD below 0.001% at 2V RMS, output impedance below 2 ohms, maximum output of 10V RMS via ¼-inch and 20V RMS via 4.4mm, and a regulated ±15V supply from a 16VAC wall-wart.
