The Excalibur is a Van den Hul mono power amplifier designed by employee Juergen Ultee, using completely DC-coupled circuitry with active temperature control via two low-noise air fans. It produces a minimum of 100 W into 8 Ω, clips at 112 W into 8 Ω, delivers 130 W into 4 Ω, and clips above 150 W into 4 Ω; distortion is specified as less than 0.1% at 1 kHz and 50 W/8 Ω, with actual second-harmonic distortion only. Its input frequency range is limited to 380 kHz, while the amplifier is flat above 10 MHz without input limitation; it has balanced 33 kΩ and unbalanced 26 kΩ inputs, an additional XLR for daisy-chaining another unit, protection against shunts and DC input, and 120 V or 230 V operation. The enclosure is available in a crème finish with dark-red side panels or black with light wooden side panels, with Ferrari-red housing available on specification.
