The Wand
14-4
The Wand 14-4 is a belt-drive turntable with a 14-inch platter constructed from four alternating layers of aluminium and acrylic, topped by a doughnut-shaped acrylic mat. Its asymmetric, approximately 25-layer German plywood plinth uses vibration-isolating holes, three feet suspended by solid silicon O-rings, and an off-centre spindle arrangement intended to place the centre of gravity on the stylus’ record-playing arc. Drive is provided by a DC motor with an isolated servo and Swiss-made belt; the turntable supports 33⅓, 45 and 78 rpm operation and can be fitted with 9.5-inch, 10.3-inch or 12-inch tonearms, with the reviewed configuration using the 10.3-inch The Wand tonearm.
