The Pro-Ject Automat A2 is a fully automatic belt-drive turntable with a floating sub-chassis and mechanically operated tonearm automation. It has a heavy hand-painted MDF main chassis, an aluminium die-cast sub-chassis top, a damped precision-balanced aluminium platter, an 8.3-inch ultra-light-mass aluminium tonearm with a four-point cardanic bearing, and an Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet cartridge. Speeds are electronically switchable between 33, 45, and 78 RPM; specifications include a 211 mm effective arm length, 7 g effective arm mass, 74 dB signal-to-noise ratio, and dimensions of 430 × 150 × 365 mm.
